This past month, Doctors’ Pediatric participated in the “Kindness Mural”. This project was led by the Ridgefield Youth Commission and was completed at The Barn Teen Center of Ridgefield, CT. The idea for the project evolved as a means to address and combat hate crimes in our own community and around the world. The notion is to encourage kindness as a response to hateful speech and symbols.
The mural is a 90 square foot design. Individuals who participated in the making of the mural were tasked with placing quarter inch porcelain tiles to replicate the artists’ design. The mural contains no words. The idea is that each person should create their own interpretation in the context of the kindness theme. The mural contains all “warm” colors so that the viewer is drawn into the mural. Lastly, the mural facilitated an “experience of kindness” by creating an environment where you would be working alongside people that you do not necessarily know.
